The University of Idaho Upward Bound Project supports low-income and/or potential first generation college students from the Nez Perce and Coeur d’Alene Reservations and the Coeur d’Alene mining district in their efforts to complete their secondary education and enter and succeed in postsecondary education. Upward Bound provides counseling, tutoring, study skills, academic planning, career exploration, field trips, college admissions and financial aid application assistance on a regular basis during the academic year. Upward Bound also provides an intensive 6-week residential summer program designed to provide students with a simulation of a college experience and further prepare them to enter and be successful in postsecondary education. Students who participate in the summer program take rigorous course work that includes, but is not limited to, math, science, English, and foreign language; all while living on campus. The University of Idaho Upward Bound Project also provides access to activities and events that promote the cultural and social development of students. Upon completion of high school, UB participants are eligible for the Summer Bridge Program, which offers six credits of instruction at the University of Idaho, all expenses paid. The Bridge Program allows for an easy transition to college and serves as a reward to students who have worked hard to achieve their academic goals.
